Grant Writing Success Case Study- Transforming a Baltimore Community
Writing the $1.5 million grant for a Baltimore health center wasn’t the challenge.

The real challenge was building a program strategy that would genuinely transform health outcomes in this predominantly Black area. Here’s why:

This community was skeptical. They were tired of healthcare organizations coming in, then leaving when they couldn’t make the profit they wanted.

On the other hand, the organization we worked for was newer to the area.

Understanding the data and lived experiences of those communities would be crucial to the success and longevity of their community health initiative.

So, Grant Writers for Health worked intensely on program strategy to create equitable service delivery. That meant:
connecting with local barber shops
partnering with an HBCU
really understanding what the community needed, and working those insights into the services and budget.

We secured the $1.5 million grant and they completed the project over two years. The grant funded 17 health care providers, 5 organizations, and served more than 1,000 people annually. The organization used that success as a launchpad for another $5 million grant, even without our direct involvement in the second round.

Writing grants may not seem like "life or death" work. But that money leads to equitable healthcare that IS life or death for people. That's why my team and I always come with the A+ energy – the outcome is that important.
