11 Grants for Healthcare Workers

Suppose you run a hospital, a federally qualified health center (FQHC), or a nurse or doctor training program. In that case, you may wonder if there are grants to help expand your workforce, entice people to enter the workforce or help students pay off loans.

There is no shortage of news and media articles that cite the need to rebuild the USA’s healthcare system- and that starts with attracting people into the field.

Particularly after the pandemic, there is a heightened awareness of how vital our frontline healthcare workers are to the health and safety of our nation.

As an organizational leader, you know hiring enough healthcare workers to meet the need while preparing for a surge can be a challenge.

The federal government has noticed and is putting additional grant money towards hiring and training programs that are scalable, address health equity, and provide a “step up.” For example, programs that train Licensed Nurse Practitioners to become Registered Nurses.

Finding and securing public grants to meet the needs of healthcare organizations is the core of our work at SGR. And the great news is that there are many opportunities for you.

Using the USA’s federal government Assistance Listings at sam.gov, formerly the Catalogue of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA), we compiled a list of 11 grant programs that fund healthcare workforce and nursing programs.

Assistance listings are detailed public descriptions of federal programs that provide grants, loans, scholarships, insurance, and other assistance awards. You may browse assistance listings across all government agencies to learn about potential funding sources.
